I have lost 29 lbs in the last 4 months but want to lose about 25-30 more. I am at the halfway point and with the upcoming holidays and cold weather making me more prone to eating fresh baked cookies while sipping on hot chocolate, I need to stay motivated and committed more than ever

The End & The Beginning...

2010 was a great year for us. Stressful at times, but life-changing and memorable. Our first (and only) baby for born to us in June of 2010 and she has been a joy to our lives. We moved a couple times this year (and will probably move again this year). 2010 was a year of change, or maturing, of growing yet finding our inner child. It was a year of intense emotions, of pleasure and pain, of love beyond what we had ever experienced before-not just for Zoe but for each other.

Having a child has brought Ben and I together closer than ever. We love our little family. It’s what we always wanted in our hearts. The timing wasn’t ideal but it worked out for the BEST! God never gives you something you can’t handle.

And God has truly blessed us this past year.

I look forward to 2011! This is going to be another great year, another great adventure. Zoe will have her 1st birthday this year, she will grow so much and there are so many new experiences to be brought about for her and for us this coming year.

Job-wise, I hope to be in a less stressful more fulfilling position.

We both want to better our bodies and our minds:

My “resolutions” include: Being more organized, Exercising more, Reading more, Scrapbooking more and Eating healthier.

We also hope to move into a better place in the not so distant future.

So,

Here’s to 2011! a new year, a new time to experience new things. I wish everyone a great year. Make the best of it. After all, LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT. We are controllers of our destinies. We sometimes forget that, but really, the potential to lead a happy satisfying life is in all of us.

As many of you know, our child Zoe is a Mexican-Jew baby. We celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas. Hanukkah started on Dec 1st this year but we decided to get together to celebrate it last Friday.

It was so much fun! we had amazing food and amazing gifts with even more amazing company.

My favorite gifts are a Sony bloggie camcorder! (This means videos to come!) and a personalized music cd that has a bunch of fun songs that include Zoe’s name in each!

And did I mention we had nummy nummy food? Mmmmm Latkes and Kugel!

Zoe is lucky to have multiple facets to her culture and heritage. She is truly one of a kind.

The holidays snuck up on me so fast! I am still in a daze over how fast they have approached. First there was Thanksgiving and then a week later Hanukkah! and now Christmas is 2.5 weeks away! Then New Years… can you keep up? I know I am barely doing so!

Here are some pics from Thanksgiving. I made an appearance at my Grandfather’s house with my parents and then I was fortunate enough to spend it with Ben’s family who I love and am truly thankful for.

Crying Over Spilled Milk

That is exactly what I did yesterday.

Ben left 3 bottles of my milk out yesterday (and the day before) when his mom dropped Zoe off and didn’t realize it til it was too late. It totaled about 13oz.

I work SO hard to keep up a supply of pumped milk for Zoe while I work. I fight my boss when I shouldn’t have to in order to pump (Yes, CA law states she has to allow me to pump, but nowhere does it say she has to be nice about it). I sacrifice my lunch time at work. I get up early, go to bed late all in efforts to pump milk.

If he had reacted to the incident better (aka not acted mad at me!), I would feel better about the whole thing…

It just goes to show that:

Zoe fell asleep in her swing last night, mommy and daddy also fell asleep. I woke up at 2 am, realizing I left her in the swing. I like for her to sleep in the crib (which is right next to our bed) She was heavily asleep, or so it seemed by her near snoring. I set her down in the crib… and before I could get back in bed, she starts screaming! I pick her up and she won’t stop. Daddy gets up and changes her for me and then swaddles her. I start to feed her and 10 minutes later, she is out.

It’s nice to know I’m a good pacifier!

Breastfeeding and Pumping have become a part of my daily life. It’s almost a game of beat the clock at times. It’s been 4 months now and although there have been challenges, It’s a lot easier now. The above picture is exactly what I use: Medela storage bottles and Tommee Tippee Bottles. (I use the Medela Pump InStyle Pump) I feel exactly like this:

now that i am nursing, i’m suddenly aware of a whole underground of breastfeeding mothers, women who get up in the middle of the night to pump in addition to several nighttime feedings, women who pump in airport restrooms and in the back of taxis, women who pump in their offices during telecons, and women who live their lives in 2-4 hour spurts. it’s like i was part of the matrix before and the veil has been lifted. can you believe there are thousands, millions of nursing mothers every day, carrying their pumps and pump parts and coolers, worrying about where they can pump and how long the milk can be left out, and as a society we make no effort to make it any easier for them? if men had to pump, then there would be telephone booth style pumping stations all over the country, and we would only have to carry around pump parts and milk bags.

to add to the indignity and inconvenience, the IRS recently decided that breastfeeding does not have enough medical benefits to qualify as medical care, and, therefore, nursing mothers will not be allowed to use FSA/HSA money to purchase breast pumps and related supplies, despite a growing body of research indicating that the antibodies passed from mother to child in breastmilk immunizes the child from certain diseases, in addition to preventing premature death of 900 babies a year.

IRS, you can suck it.

Zoe is 4 months old!

Yesterday was Zoe’s 4 month well baby visit. She is 14lbs and 25.5 inches long. She is healthy and doing great developmentally! She is in the 75th percentile for weight and 80-90 percentile for height. Her head is 16inches in diameter and in the 50th percentile. She is doing great!
